About Us
The Bay Area Perinatal AIDS Center provides comprehensive preconception counseling and prenatal care to women and families infected and affected by HIV. Committed to leadership in perinatal HIV care, BAPAC also offers consultations and education to medical providers worldwide. Part of UCSF-Positive Health Program, BAPAC is a multi-disciplinary team tailoring medical and psychosocial services to the specific needs of each woman and her family before, during and after pregnancy.
Services
- Preconception counseling for women, concordant and discordant couples, including infertility evaluation.
- Prenatal and postpartum care, including:
- Outpatient and inpatient high-risk obstetrics in conjunction with SFGH Women's Health Center and UCSF Department of OB/GYN
- Psychiatry
- Genetic counseling and testing
- Nutrition and health education
- HIV testing for infant(s) & family members
- Level III Labor and Delivery, Intensive-Care Nursery, and Well-Baby Nursery
- Access to banked human milk
Full-service gynecologic care, including:
- Colposcopy
- Contraceptive counseling
- Outpatient/Inpatient surgery
Consultation for providers and patients:
- Twenty-four hour a day coverage
Intensive case management, counseling, and social services for clients and their families, including assessment and referral for:
- Mental health treatment
- Alcohol/drug treatment including methadone
- Smoking cessation
- Housing and transportation
- Legal services
- ADAP, Medi-Cal, financial benefits (SSI, TANF, GA)
- Parenting support and child-care
Education:
- in-service trainings on perinatal HIV
- Access to clinical research
- Primary care referral for infected and uninfected family members
